During their first week in Nepal, students began their orientation in Bhaktapur, including exploration, cultural immersion, and games!

“When we finally got to hotel Bhaktapur I was completely in shock at the totally unfamiliar world around me. The strangest assortment of traditional modern buildings along fields of rice and militate. We’re surrounded on all sides by a smoky haze in striking mountains.

The people themselves were super excited to see us— I must have seen over two dozen waves just on the bus to the hotel. Not to mention how friendly are hosts were. They cook the most amazing feasts and always came out to greet us, when we left are rooms, but after a 14 hour flight the only thing I could think of was taking a nice cold shower.

The bathroom was a piece of work but I figured it out eventually and joined the other girls refreshed. That night confirmed what I had already hope, that I was going to totally love this group. We played Uno, made bracelets and, talked late into the night. By the time my head hit the pillow I was out.” – Sofia

While finalizing their orientation in Bhaktapur, students prepared for the big trek!

“Yesterday, me Julian, Juliette, Shelby, Leo and, Dahlia got lost but because god had mercy on us we found are way back. It was fun the whole day and I and meals I enjoy. Also I realized I can be really picky. Well everyone was eating Nepali food I was eating sandwich and fries. I enjoy being here, but for the first time I realize I like America.” – Briana

“In the morning we did team building exercises. Julien and I won both which was great. Sometimes I wasn’t sure if he was flying or levitating to win the piggy back competition. I think Kayla and Topher were preparing us for the Mystery market tour. Were we would be without a guide are group (Dahlia, Julien and, me) met with Leo, Nia, Briana and, Juliette; and we had a great time exploring. We met a shop keeper and he was probably the nicest guy we met. Sam (shop keeper) showed us all of these festivals and taught us the history of Bahtkapaur. It was my highlight of my day. After we went back Taylor, Dahlia, Mya, Sofia, Nia and I did sun salutations on the roof, and we plan to make it a regular thing.” – Shelby

As students prepared to take on the trekking portion of the experience, they felt excitement, trepidation, and the thrill of a new challenge.

“We are heading to Pokhera before the trek! I’m fairly excited but at the same time I’m very exhausted. We had to wake up at 6am today which was a real challenge, but we did it!!!:) Yesterday we met Shawn, he was a real fire person. I think he was a great dude and I hope he has the best life!” – Leo

“So far its been really fun and Ive met so many cool people. I’ve been eating really good rice and chicken, and, we even had pasta last night. Super excited to keep going and exploring!” – Mya

“It’s day 3 or 4 I think, and so far I’m having a great time. There’s defiantly a lot of new sensations and emotions, but I’m getting used to them slowly. So far my favorite thing but also scariest has been connecting with the group and making some friends. It’s crazy how comfortable you can get around people in just 3 days. Bathkapur was super interesting and the people we met were really nice. I’m getting excited for the trek as we drive to Pokhera witch is are starting point. Getting out of the city and seeing more nature and mountains has been so beautiful.” – Juliette

“Namaste! It’s been an awesome adventure so far lots of new smells and sites, the group is awesome we’ve connected so much and it’s only the beginning. We are on are way to begin the trek. Super excited to get up there and see the mountains! And the food is awesome.” – Taylor

“We’re on are way to the trek and I’m really exited to being! So far It’s been really fun to explore Kathmandu and speak with the locals. It’s been really nice to get to know everyone and were all getting along great. Namaste. ” – Nia

“It’s the fourth full day and we’re getting ready for the trek. Nepal is very hot and sweaty and also really beautiful. I’m excited for the trek witch is tomorrow. The group is getting along quite well and everyone is still being nice to each other. My sweat is beginning to smell like curry. ” – Dahlia
