This morning the team bid a bittersweet farewell to all the sweet families that hosted us during the project. The students all shared that it was a lot harder to say good bye than they had originally thought. During our homestay we spent time digging trenches to install a fence, tutoring and art projects with the young kids in the community, exploring the nearby creeks and caves and swimming in the famous 5 Sisters Waterfall. We also got the chance to go ziplining at a nearby place called Calico Jacks. Overall it was an adventurous homestay experience where the students became local community members.
We were able to leave the village with all the poles in the ground and a part of the fence up. We also painted a beautiful mural on the side of the school showcasing all the flora fauna in Belize. Now we are in Caye Caulker, a small peaceful island, to celebrate all of our hard work and enjoy another part of Belize. Tomorrow we head off to the blue Carribbean waters for snorkeling and a reef ecology talk. Our time together is slowing dwindling down and the students are trying to soak in every minute of Belize and one another.
