Greetings from Belize!

Our group has settled in and is hard at work on our fence-building project in the village of El Progresso.  The students are enjoying their home-stay families, and spending time playing soccer and Frisbee, amongst other games with the local children.  We have also been spending time exploring the 7 Mile area. We went for a beautiful hike culminating in a  swim in a jungle river called Barton Creek on Wednesday.   Today, Saturday, we are back in San Ignacio for e-mails and phone calls home, and then hope to explore some caves on the edge of the village this afternoon. Tomorrow we will visit a series of small waterfalls called the Five Sisters, a popular local swimming hole.  On Monday we will be back to work, both on the fence and on the students’ self-directed secondary projects. One group will be tutoring students at the school and another will be painting a mural to decorate the village; projects which they have selected and will be leading themselves.

With a mix of getting to know the locals and playing more soccer in our free time.
