St. Vincent is a lush, mountainous island with volcanic soil, perfect for growing a dazzling array of fruits and vegetables. Our adventurers got to see this diversity first-hand this week, with a trip to our host’s hillside farm. From coconuts fresh off of the tree, to all kinds of bananas and unique fruits, our travelers had quite the feast.
Walking through the farm gave everyone an appreciation for the hard work it takes to grow so many delicious foods, and for the hills of the island. They’re no joke!
Another reason St. Vincent is great for growing food is that it is in the tropics, which means rain! Though you might first think that rain would be a bummer for an outdoor summer camp, our awesome travelers were prepared for the eventuality. They turned the rain itself into an activity, painting each other’s faces and arms with an impressive combination of paint and mud, splashing around the field, and singing songs.
The rain also provided ample opportunity to work on skills with the camp kids. From guitar playing, to bracelet-making, to photography, our travelers were keen to share their skills.
