Transitioning back into El Brujo after the excursion was challenging especially after spending so much time with each other. But we were all able to settle back into the daily routine as we turned our attention to completing the aqueduct. The last few days of work were hard on the group but we pushed through and were able to accomplish something we didn’t think was possible when we started. At the beginning of the service project, lots of us didn’t know the people in this community very well, but living with them and building relationships with them pushed us to finish the aqueduct. We finished the aqueduct a few days ago and the mood since then has been immaculate. Being able to give back to this community after they’ve given so much to us is so rewarding, and has left me, and I’m sure the rest of the group, with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Now that the aqueduct is finished we have been able to dive deeper in to the culture and community of El Brujo, three days ago the group took an excursion to a nearby waterfall. Swimming and relaxing all morning felt like such a reward for all the hard work we’ve done. As I looked around me at all my friends both from El Brujo, and Global Routes I was struck by how little time we had left all together. At the waterfall I promised myself that I would make the most of the days I have left with all these people. This morning we made tamales at Sam and Riley’s house, it was an eye opening experience and made me appreciate how much love goes into the preparation of each meal here in El Brujo. Our time in El Brujo is nearing its end and the whole group felt that when we called home for the second time yesterday. There were definitely a few people who felt homesick afterwards (me included) but we lifted each other up as a group which is what we do best in my opinion. Today is the last friendship camp and as I looked around me I see a beautiful sense of community. As a group we are planning a despedida (goodbye) for the people of El Brujo to express our gratitude to them. We want to leave them with not only something they are able to use, but a lasting memory of our thanks. As we prepare to leave El Brujo and embark on the final chapter of this trip I’m struck by how much I’m going to miss this place and these amazing people. El Brujo has become my temporary home and it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever lived. This morning I woke up at 4:30 to watch the sunrise, something I haven’t done here yet. The vibrant oranges and pinks were some of the most beautiful colors I’ve ever seen, and it’s a memory I’ll cherish forever. While I can’t wait to go rafting, I know how much it will hurt to leave all the friends I’ve made here.ADIOS EL BRUJO !! – Sasha
