Continued Learning & Time for a Dance Party at Momi’s

Since the last blog the group has been continuing to help Momi on her land and explore Hilo. We were able to meet Topher who is a past Global Routes OE who was able to teach us many new things about Hawai’i.

We were able to finish fixing Momi’s trail which was a super rewarding process and we were able to swim in her river afterwards. On Wednesday this week we also had the chance to go down to a large farmers market in downtown Hilo. We had about 2 hours in our buddy systems to walk around and explore all of the local shops and stands. Then on Wednesday night one of the best moments of this week was the party Momi let us throw in her garage. We were able to listen to music, dance, and overall have fun for the night.

But transformation is never easy! What has been challenging for the group this week?

The OEs had us do some team bonding games and one of the was “the helium stick” This is a game where everyone in the group must be holding up the stick with one finger and the goal is to bring the stick to the ground without anyone’s finger coming off. This game caused a lot of frustration and showed the group many things that each of us could work on.

What are you looking forward to next week?

Next week we will be moving locations Miloli’i which is a location closer to the beaches. We are excited to live in the new community and meet new people.

Note from the Global Routes team: As you know, wifi access on our remote Hawai’i program can be limited! We’re awaiting more photos from the students and Program Leaders when they’re able to get enough internet access to upload them all. We’ll share them in future blog posts and on social media when they’re delivered to us! 🙂
