This past week was wonderful. Our first day we went on a steep hike up Mt. Longonot. We saw a gazelle in the wild forest and had lunch up at the top of the crater. Later that day we arrived at our campsite and settled in and had our first kiswahili lesson. Jambo! The group spent the evening practicing greetings.

The next day we went to Hell’s Gate National Park and took a beautiful walk in the gorges. After an incredible day in nature, we spent the evening learning about Kenyan culture and sharing a traditional meal. We closed the evening with an intimate campfire.

The 3rd day we went to Lake Nakuru National Park and did 2 game drives. There was so much wildlife to see. The group was excited about a lion sitting in a tree, black and white rhinos and hippos of course.

Before we left our hostel this morning we saw two lions eating a buffalo they had just killed! It was unbelievable how close they were. We were all in awe for an hour. Finally we pulled ourselves away to begin our journey to Kakamega where we are staying for the night. We are enjoying each others’ company and really excited to meet our host families tomorrow in our new home of Emurumba. More next week!

Here are a couple of photos from the safaris…
