Greetings from Nairobi! It hasn’t yet been 24 hours since the group arrived in Kenya, and we are already having a great time. Most of the group landed late last night. When we arrived at our hotel, we had some good food and fell directly to sleep. This morning, once the entire group was finally together and better rested, we hit the town for a full and energizing day in Kenya’s capital city. Two of today’s highlights were our visit to a nearby giraffe center, where we got up close and personal with endangered Rothschild giraffes – some of us fed and even kissed them! After that, we watched about two hours of cultural dances representing various tribes and regions of the African continent.

We are enjoying getting to know one another and our new home and are excited for the days and months ahead. Tomorrow morning we will depart Nairobi to work our way slowly to Kakamega (near our homestay village, Emurumba, where we will arrive next Saturday). Along the way we will take hikes, go on game drives, see Lake Naivasha, spend a couple of nights camping, and learn some Swahili! The plan for tomorrow is to wake our listless legs up from our long trans-Atlantic journeys with a challenging hike up Mount Longonot. We will report more soon!

Sincerely,
The East Africa Gang
