Jetlagged but wildly positive, the students arrived late at night to Chiang Mai. After a short and sweet welcome, they got a good night’s sleep and woke to find themselves at the beautiful Eco Resort Hotel. We had a great morning getting to know one another, cooled off in the pool and managed to sample some pad thai, see novice monks in bright orange robes passing by and practice our greetings to friendly hotel staff “Sa Wa Dee!” (hello!). Today we got to spend time with our local contact, Pi (which means ‘Uncle’) Pichit, who gave us a lesson on useful Thai phrases and important cultural information. Students then got a chance to check in with folks at home, explore the old city of Chiang Mai and visit our first Wat (temple). The group is full of amazing people and despite the humidity, we are managing to really enjoy our time here so far, excited for what’s to come!
