All of our staff are committed, passionate individuals who see the value in meaningful travel, opportunities for personal growth, sustainable and responsible development, as well as stepping out into the great unknown. Our program leaders embody these values face-to-face with our students, and are a critical part to building valuable programs.
The goals of our programs require that leaders have a deep commitment to fostering the growth of themselves and group participants. The intention of the programs is to place students in an environment radically different from their own where they can reflect on their own life and culture. Leaders must facilitate this process in a fun and creative way in addition to meeting the logistical demands of managing a group in a developing country.
Our summer programs for high school students generally involve a 4-to-6-week commitment (late June through mid-August) as well as attending a ten-day staff immersion training prior to departure in mid-to-late June. These are co-leadership positions: two leaders, typically one man and one woman, lead a group of up to eighteen high school students.
Our gap programs for college students involve coordinating and supporting interns who live either singly or in pairs in villages as they teach at local primary and secondary schools. The leader is also responsible for organizing the group’s in-country orientation and managing the debriefing process prior to their return. Preference is given to applicants who are able to lead two or more programs sequentially.
