After deciding to end work on the school as well as an intense moral
dilemma for the group, we got back on track this past week. Monday
started with a community meeting where numerous ideas for projects
were formed. These included an after-school camp for kids, building new
soccer (football) goals, painting a world map mural and the gated
school entrance, and holding a community health fair. Fortunately, we
didn’t have to choose, and we are doing them all!<\/p>\n

Throughout this week we have watched our projects grow. We have
completed weaving one of the two soccer nets and installed the posts,
are halfway through painting the renovated classrooms, have had three
successful after-school programs, began our world map mural and
painted the school’s front gate. On Saturday we held a community
health fair which had a great turnout! We were fortunate to be able to
provide on-site HIV testing, which drew quite a crowd. In addition to
our various projects we have begun observing and teaching in the local
school here in Emurumba now that the teacher’s strike has finally
ended.<\/p>\n

On Sunday we went on a group excursion to Kakamega Forest. We spent
the night there and went on a beautiful sunrise hike this morning.<\/p>\n

We have tons of beautiful pictures of our work in Emurumba and from the\u00a0
Kakamega Forest trip, but unfortunately we were only able to upload
one photo because the internet connection here is so\u00a0slow.<\/p>\n
