After breakfast we started on our hike to\u00a0the Mayan ruin of Xunantunich. As It has been raining for a few days off\u00a0and on, it was muddy and swampy! At one point we had to trek through\u00a0shin-deep water to get across rivers. It was well worth it though!\u00a0Chena, the owner of the place we are staying, guided us and taught\u00a0us about medicinal herbs. People come to her\u00a0seeking advice for their\u00a0personal ailments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We learned about plants\u00a0that help reduce high blood pressure, treat lupus, address cold symptoms, \u00a0and even reverse hair loss. It was fascinating to learn how local plants can\u00a0help cure ailments. Upon reaching the ruins, we stopped for a yummy\u00a0lunch and prepared for our tour around the ruins. We saw the main\u00a0temple, a pyramid where sacrifices were done, and the royal palace where\u00a0the Mayan nobles lived. The land felt magical as we climbed up to the\u00a0top, from which we had a 360 degree view of Belize and the border with\u00a0Guatemala!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After the ruins, we took a bus back to our huts and closed\u00a0the day writing Haikus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">ps.
