Immersive Leadership Training along the Appalachian Trail
Building key elements of leadership – According to Seth Godin, young adults need these two skills, and only these two skills, to thrive in the 21st century: Leadership and the ability to solve interesting problems. This course emphasizes both of these skills through challenging hard-skill initiatives such as rock climbing, canoeing, and backpacking in the wilderness; as well as soft-skill initiatives, such as facilitating group meetings, addressing conflict, and demonstrating the development of key leadership traits.
Backdrop –ย The backdrop for this course is the Appalachian region along the Pennsylvania and New Jersey borders.
This program can also be developed in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, or in the Southwest.
Focusing the group and laying foundations:ย
The program begins with group orientation. Program leaders will guide the group through activities and initiatives designed to elevate the group and empower the community to excel and collaborate throughout the program.
Deep Dive into wilderness leadership:
Students explore the kaleidoscope of leadership development through the implementation of both hard- and soft-skill initiatives, including:
Reflection, Re-Entry, Goal Setting:
Reflect on your experience through expertly guided activities designed to support students’ transition out of the program to integrate all they’ve learned into their everyday lives.
